One Man’s Quest to Restore the Orca Population in the Pacific Northwest: “Nature is Coming Back”

A team of whale-watchers off the coast of Port Angeles in Washington State have led a long-term photo-identification project focusing on Southern Resident orcas. Ken Balcomb, the founder of the Center for Whale Research, turned hundreds of thousands of photos into a scientific database to help identify Southern Residents.
